Description

Based on over 100 hours of interviews with Bulelani Ngcuka, No Fear is unapologetically Bulelani’s story. It begins with the pivotal moment in 2003 where he makes the decision not to prosecute Jacob Zuma, announcing that there is prima facie evidence for a corruption case against him. This decision haunts Ngcuka, and the country, till today, but Ngcuka remains resolute. He stands by his decision.

The biography then moves chronologically through Ngcuka’s life – his upbringing, work as a lawyer during the apartheid years with Griffiths Mxenge, his imprisonment, exile, return, release of Nelson Mandela, 1994 elections and finally his appointment as head of the National Prosecuting Authority. We follow his work at the NPA and Scorpions, the urban terror campaign, bombings, and hijackings, and then return to his decision in 2003. The Arms Deal case is also briefly revisited, followed by the campaign against Ngcuka: the accusations of being an apartheid spy, hoax emails, lies, and more lies. Finally, we conclude with details on how this campaign against Ngcuka has played out (still plays out) in political fights and maneuvering as the Zuma matter remains unresolved.

Marion Sparg has written a biography from Ngcuka’s perspective; it is his story. In No Fear there is a hero and a villain; grand, sweeping historical background of South Africa and its parities; spies; political manoeuvring; murder; intrigue and love.
