Join us as we support the Morris Isaacson Centre for Music in Soweto by collecting second-hand books for a group of incredibly intelligent, strong-willed young girls who love to read. Some of their favourite writers include Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Chinua Achebe.
Their teacher Claudia Dehnke has reached out to us on a mission to “collect as many second-hand copies of books by women of colour, and South African writers in general, with the ultimate goal of creating a book club”. Claudia would like to expose some of the works of authors such as Bernadine Evaristo, James Baldwin, Toni Morrison, Zadie Smith, Malorie Blackman, Trevor Noah etc.
Now, this is right up the ally of what we are about as Book Circle Capital and of course we jumped at the opportunity to be part of this. We now have a box instore which you can place your donated books in. You can either bring your previously loved books or purchase a new book from us and drop it in the box.
This is a great initiative as we enter the season of giving. We need more and more initiatives like this to get children to fall in love with reading and change undesirable statistics that have been shared about the number of children who are unable to read with comprehension.
We are so grateful for the support received thus far from members of the Melville community who have already dropped books in the box before the official announcement. Let’s make reading fashionable!
